Memorial Day – Reading of the Names

Today in Riverbend Park volunteers read the name, age and hometown of everyone [in the coalition] killed in Iran and Afghanistan…approximately 6,000 names.

Ralph read names again for the 2nd year in a row. I’m so proud of him!

While there, I heard a name of a 22 yo man from my hometown…Traverse City, Michigan.

Thanks Tracy for putting this together again.

FYI – the names of everyone killed are written on the white placards.

Palmer’s Cafe – My New Fav Breakfast Spot!

We’ve all driven by the Palmer’s Motel & Cafe, but have you ever stopped in? I meet up with a girlfriend for bfast every other week and this week we decided to check out Palmer’s and were very impressed. Really cute and clean inside [I was thinking it would be “divey”]. Nice and friendly staff. Excellent food. Both myself and my meat loving friend thought this was the best bfast we’ve had in a longgg time. There is even a place to sit outside once the weather is nicer!

Portland: Need to Show ID When Using a Credit Card

Pioneer Place Shopping Mall

When I was in Portland I helped out the local economy. Each time I used my credit card [in a store, NOT a restaurant], I was asked for my ID. I finally asked a sales clerk if seeing an ID was some sort of Portland law. Nope…with the increase of meth addiction in Gresham [Portland suburb], identity theft was quite common.

Portland: Favorite Sculptures

In a town that seems to have at least two sculptures each block, seems to have more sculptures per capita than any other city [ha], these are my favorite three.

Apple Store in Portland

Always seem to be bustling with people. I dare you to find someone over 40 in the store! NOTE: moms accompanying their kids do NOT count.

Book: Some Girls: My Life in a Harem

By Jillian Lauren. Went to listen to an author reading at Powell Books in Portland. Really liked her and the vignettes that she read, so thought I’d get a book for a friend [I don’t buy books for myself] and have her autograph it.

Unfortunately, Powell Books did NOT have a “bad guy” person next to her at the table, in order to move the line along. So, instead of waiting for a 10 minute intimate discussion with each person in line…I left. Good thing the Bend library has it!
