Snow Before Halloween?

I grew up in northern Michigan, which averages 70 – 80 inches of snow each winter.  I remember as a kid hoping that we would NOT get any snow before Halloween…lets just make it until then, please.

I should have been saying that here in Bend!

Helmets On While Swinging?

I was riding by Newport Grade School’s play ground.  A mom was there and she was pushing two little toddlers on a swing (one per swing).  Both kids had helmets on!!

I’m hoping their bikes were hidden somewhere, instead of this being the latest in extreme parental precautions in protecting kids!

How Does Hutch’s Bike Shop Stay in Business?

Hutch’s sure makes it tough to buy local.

Once again we went to the west side store to buy a $200 pair of cycling shoes and the people working there had zero interest in helping us.

How much should a customer beg a business to take their money?

We never seem to learn. Actually, the reason we keep going back is because Ralph bought a bike from them, thus he gets 10% off all purchases… so, we keep going back.  The discount is probably a smart advert move on their part since they know it’ll never be used!

In a related Lazy-Salespeople-at-a-Bike-Shop story, about a year ago Ralph wanted to buy a certain bike that Web Cyclery sells. He went there but they didn’t have his size bike. He had to ask them to order him one. Then he had to tell them his contact info.  They would have let him leave without ordering it for him or getting his name and phone number!

Of course they never called him back. Fast forward a few months and they were having a store wide sale – 20% off all bikes. He then went in and bought the bike he wanted/ordered and ended up getting it on sale!

A Quote From the Book: Women Food and God

This book by Geneen Roth has been on the Bestsellers List now for around 6 months.

We have Oprah to thank for this:

“I believe we are walking, talking expressions of our deepest convictions; everything we believe about love, fear, transformation and God is revealed in how, when and what we eat. When we inhale Reese’s peanut butter cups when we are not hungry, we are acting out an entire world of hope or hopelessness, of faith or doubt, of love or fear. If we are interested in finding out what we actually believe – not what we think, not what we say, but what our souls are convinced is the bottom –line truth about life and afterlife – we need go no further than the food on our plates. God is not just in the details; God is also in the muffins, the fried sweet potatoes and the tomato vegetable soup. God – however we define him or her – is on our plates.”

Mail From Conger and Stiegler For State Rep

I’m tired of getting so much mail from Conger and Stiegler. We still get mail even after I told a phone survey that we knew who we were voting for and won’t be changing our minds. I also told a door to door person NOT to bother leaving anything and to remove us from their mailers. Use your money more wisely!

Today in the mail:
Ralph got TWO flyers from Stiegler
I received one flyer from Conger
Ralph received TWO flyers from Conger, PLUS one letter.

Why did Ralph get more than me? Hmmm…this reminds me of a State Rep race in Ohio a few years back when a girlfriend of mine was running. Her opponent would only send mail/flyers to men in the district.

She won.
