Book: Marilyn Monroe Snagging Arthur Miller

I’m reading a book about Marilyn Monroe. Things I’ve learned:
* As she’s about to marry Joe DiMaggio, she’s telling friends she will one day marry Arthur Miller.
* Best friends Arthur Miller and Elia Kazan are on her film set. She sits weeping, knowing that this would attract attention and arouse sympathy in Miller and Kazan and make her even more appealing to them. It worked.
* They invite her to a party. Miller sat next to her and gently held and squeezed her toe all nite. Then she went home with Kazan.
* She continued to have an affair with married Kazan, which made her more desirable to Miller.

Music: Blackberry Bushes Band

From the Seatle area. A true bluegrass band that was missing their fiddle player. He was back in Salt Lake City with their van, that had broken down. They apparently rented a car that wasn’t big enough for an Upright, so they’ve had to borrow one locally at each gig since then.

Kittie Treats

Found some kittie treats. Expired Dec 2008. Just now tried giving a few to them.

Black Cat sniffed and wasn’t a taker.

Gray Cat tried 2 of them and spit both out.

I guess treats that have expired 7 years ago have lost their tastiness!

Who Wants Beets in Their Brownies?

Ralph was reading about healthy cookies/protein bar recipes. He mentions Red Velvet Brownies. What makes them red? Lots of beets! Sounds nasty.

Come to find out, beet juice supplies the natural coloring for red velvet cake/cupcakes…not artificial dyes. Who Knew?

The Slow Death of CD Players in New Cars

Approx 2 dozen 2016 models will NOT have a CD player, mostly cars targeting younger buyers. One of the main reasons is the little slot you put your CD in, is prime real estate…and believed to be better used for a larger touch screen.

It’ll [hopefully] be awhile before we get a new car, but I suspect I’ll have to add this to my “must have” list, along with heated seats.

Owyhee Canyonlands

When we were in Portland, I saw at an outdoorsy store, a flyer to kayak/raft the Owyhee River [pronounced like Hawaii except Oh instead of Ha]. Never heard of it. Since I’ve been back, I’ve seen it mentioned at least 5 times. Then, there was a talk at the library. Our library is pretty cool. If someone really digs anything…the Beatles, Matisse, a certain Park, they can give a talk at the library. So, there is this local couple, easily in their 70s. Every year for at least 20 years, they take their inflatable kayaks on the Owyhee River.

The Owyhee wilderness area is huge [2.5 million acres…two Marylands]. SE Oregon, SW Idaho, N Nevada. There is only one place [in Oregon] where you can actually see the river [bridge over river]. If you want to get on the river, you go to this town, take a shuttle that will take you to the closest put in point…250 miles away!!

So, this older couple are literally in the middle of nowhere, on inflatable kayaks and depending on water flow, they need to portage or maneuver around rocks. There’s wild and poisonous animals. There are Class III and IV rapids. They say that there’s only been a few times they’ve seen other people. They take photos and videos to show their experiences. Yeow…I want us to be like that couple when we’re in our 70s!

This area is in the process of being named a Wilderness, and thus protected.

Kegels!

The teacher asks before Barre class, as usual, if there is any specific body part anyone wants to work on?

The young woman next to me says: Kegels!

Teacher: Well, that’s the first time anyone has requested that!
